Morales & Besa has an active pro-bono program where its lawyers provide legal advice and assistance, free of charge, to individuals and entities affected by or involved in a situation of public interest and who lack the means to pay for such services. As a matter of firm policy all the attorneys at the firm are encouraged to dedicate part of their time to do pro-bono work. For all purposes, pro-bono work is treated in the same manner as any other paid for work that the firm undertakes in terms of dedication, resources and career advancement. A special pro-bono committee selects the matters to be undertaken by the firm based on the merit and public interest of the matter. Typically, the firm provides pro-bono assistance to several charitable institutions such as Fundación Solidaridad, Make A Wish Foundation International, Fundación América Solidaria, ONG Desarrollo Casa de Acogida la Esperanza, Corporación de Ciegos, Cipyme, English Speaking Union, and advocacy groups.
Morales & Besa is a member of the Chilean chapter of the Pro-Bono Foundation formed by several law firms that have a similar dedication to providing pro bono work and has extensively contributed to the promotion of these activities through the organization of seminars, maintaining close ties with important local and foreign law firms and creating awareness among its lawyers. The firm has actively participated in the Pro Bono Declaration of the Americas, alongside with the Cyrus R. Vance Center of the N.Y. Bar Association, Fundación Pro Bono in Chile, and some of the most prominent law firms of the United States of America and Latin-American countries.
